چکیده
Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy, accounting for 1% of all malignant tumors in the USA (Sherman, 2003) and 5.9% in one district of Wenzhou (a coastal city in Southeast China, with a incidence of 21/100,000) (Zheng and Zhang, 2007). The incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma, which is the most common histologic type of thyroid malignancy, is increasing worldwide (Davies and Welch, 2006). Recently, widespread use of ultrasonography (US) and US-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) has facilitated the diagnosis of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC), which is defined by the World Health Organization as a papillary carcinoma measured at 10 mm or less in its maximal diameter (Davies and Welch, 2006). However, the management of PTMC remains controversial. Although some clinicians believe that observation is appropriate,

The BRAFT1799A mutation is not associated with occult contralateral carcinoma in patients with unilateral papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.
BACKGROUND The phenomenon of occult carcinoma maybe observed in patients with clinically unilateral papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). Although many studies have reported that the BRAFT1799A mutation is associated with aggressive PTMC, the relationship between BRAFT1799A mutation and occult carcinoma is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the risk factors, including BRAFT179...
متن کاملPredicting Extrathyroidal Extension in Patients With Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma According to a BRAF Mutation
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between preoperative parameters and extrathyroidal extension (ETE) of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) according to the BRAF mutation and to evaluate the preoperative predictability of ETE. METHODS We analyzed the medical records of 332 patients with PTMC (140 in the BRAF- group and 192 in the BRAF+ group). The presence o...
متن کاملMultifocality of the primary tumor is a predictive factor for contralateral occult carcinoma in patients with unilateral papillary thyroid carcinoma
Purpose: To analyze the risk factors for occult contralateral carcinoma in the patients with unilateral thyroid papillary carcinoma (PTC). Methods: A retrospective review of the clinical data of PTC patients with total thyroidectomy from September 2012 to September 2014 in Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, was conducted to estimate the incidence of contralateral occult carcinoma of thyroid and to analy...
متن کاملAssociations of the BRAFV600E Mutation with Sonographic Features and Clinicopathologic Characteristics in a Large Population with Conventional Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association of the BRAF(V600E) mutation with sonographic features and clinicopathologic characteristics in a large population with conventional papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the sonographic features, clinicopathologic characteristics, and presence of the BRAF(V600E) mutation in 688 patients who underwent thyroidectomy for conv...
متن کاملPapillary microcarcinoma in comparison with larger papillary thyroid carcinoma in BRAF(V600E) mutation, clinicopathological features, and immunohistochemical findings.
BACKGROUND Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PMC; <or=1 cm) is thought to take a benign course during the lifetime. However, recent studies showed high recurrence rates for PMC. METHODS We analyzed the clinicopathological features, long-term prognosis, and some molecular characteristics including BRAF(V600E) mutation by retrospectively reviewing the records of 1150 patients with papillary thy...
